This is for those of us who will not be going to Coachella. Sure, 99,000 people may be attending this all-too-popular music festival over the course of the next two weekends. And yes, over 100+ artist will be performing. But fear not my friends. There is plenty to do here at home in San Diego.

Ask yourself, why do people go to Coachella? What is the hype? Well, I have come across the top 5 reasons to answer that question:
1) The music
2) To relax
3) The food
4) The art
5) To be with friends
All 5 of which can easily be enjoyed here in sunny San Diego!

Music

Start the first weekend of with a good old kickback Friday night while listening to your Energy 103.7 for Unprotected Sets broadcasting SD’s local DJ’s. Saturday night should be dedicated to Parq Restaurant and Night Club as Fetty Wap will be back in town! And lastly to wrap up the weekend enjoy your Sunday evening with some live Jazz music up in Encinitas.

Relax

These possibilities are endless! There is donation based Yoga in PB on Law St every Saturday and Sunday so grab some friends, your mat, and a $5 donation and feel the Zen!

If yoga isn’t your forte spend the day by the beach, with the weather averaging 70 degrees, the beach is always a good option. Or if you still want to enjoy some drinks, hit up a local brewery or winery and go beer tasting. Nothing like a couple beers to help relax.

Food

Think outside the box for this one. Go somewhere you’ve never been before!

Try out Farmer and The Seahorse up in Torrey Pines. Averaging four stars on Yelp, this American restaurant is known for its cozy, urban and rustic environment. Or try Slater’s 50/50. With locations in Liberty Station and San Marcos this burger joint never fails! Create your own bizarre hamburger and eat till you cant move! Well worth it, every time.

As for my chocolate lovers, go and try Eclipse Chocolate bar and Bistro. This place has everything chocolate for you to drink and eat! Of course there’s some regular food too, but who needs that when there is chocolate?!

Art

Pay a visit to the San Diego Museum of Art or, if you want to create art, sign up for a pottery class and/or painting class (wine pairs well with both)! You could even enjoy the art of nature by getting outside and going on a hike! See some beautiful views while also burning some calories, doesn’t get much better than that!

Be with Friends

What better way to be with friends on the weekend then a club crawl! Or go back to your childhood and attend COLORS: Biggest ‘90s Party Ever at the House of Blues on Friday April 14th. Get decked out in your favorite ‘90s gear and enjoy all the throwbacks you can think of!

If you’re looking for something to do during the day Saturday, head to the beach and jump on the Social Cycle in Pacific Beach with a group of your BFFs’. And what better way to spend Sunday than some yummy brunch with friends? Enjoy the breath-taking atmosphere at Herringbone in La Jolla, re-opening April 9th, this brand-new restaurant is well worth the price!

These are but a few ways to spend your weekend here in San Diego while everyone makes their way out to Coachella. Just because you are not going, does not mean you cant have some fun! Live it up during the day or at night, San Diego never disappoints!
