In recent years, females artists have fought fiercely to break away from the sugary pop image of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Skylar Grey is one of these artists who clearly stands out from the rest of the pack, not only as a singer, but as a songwriter, instrumentalist and producer as well.
Grey released her debut album under her birth name, Holly Brook, back in 2006. Since then, she adopted the stage name Skylar Grey is best known for her tantalizing hooks in Fort Minor’s “Where’d You Go” and “Be Somebody”, Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Coming Home”, Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor”, Lupe Fiasco’s “Words I Never Said” and Kaskade’s “Room for Happiness”.
Grey has also begun to work on solo projects, the most recent of which is her original track “Invisible”, written and composed by Grey herself. The track is also the first single of her upcoming album The Glass House.
Although this will be her first solo album, Grey has already begun to create a legacy for herself having worked with some of the biggest names in the music and production industry. But don’t take my word for it, come check her out for yourself. She will be performing live at Hard Rock this Friday, March 23rd.
