BY BRADLEY SCHWEIT

I honestly haven’t a clue what is really going to happen this Sunday, Dec. 4, at Guesthouse inside Stingaree, but based upon what little I do know about the event that Guesthouse @ Stingaree, DJhere, and DDj Presents have been rather tight-lipped about since its inception, I can say I’m fucking pissed I won’t be there to enjoy it. That’s right, I will be out of town for a work trip — not photography, but real work, mind you — and thus missing out on what should prove to be an event of epic proportions. (Under normal circumstances, I loathe the word “epic,” however, in this instance, I utilized the adjective to modify “proportions,” thereby eliminating the opportunity for you to label me a hypocrite.) And since most of you probably haven’t a clue what the fuck I just wrote, let’s simply leave it as, this Sunday is going to be nothing short of radical beyond all comprehensible belief. Better?

What is this radical event, you ask? Well, it is the launch of what will otherwise be known as the Guesthouse Day Club — GHDC for short. And in a nutshell, it’s going to be controlled chaos, managed mayhem, a structured shit show. It’s day club meets nightclub, and all clubs in-between. Take one part Intervention, one part Sidebar, a whole shitload of Sting and Guesthouse, and throw in a bit of carnival for good measure, and you might come close to creating what the guys and girls at Stingaree/Guesthouse, DJhere, and DDj Presents have put together.

There will be circus acts, champagne showers, cryo guns (whatever the fuck those are), confetti canons, a whole bunch of neon, strobes, DJ’s, enough booze to satiate Ireland’s entire population, and delicious hors d’oeuvres (or as I like to call them, “snacky cakes”). It’s “Sunday funday” on an entirely new level, and one that you certainly don’t want to miss.

Talent for the GHDC will be none other than Sex Panther, and local San Diego DJ’s Erick Diaz, Adam Salter, and Gabe Vega. The latter three I don’t doubt you’re already familiar with, however, if you’ve yet to check out Sex Panther’s live set, this Sunday at Stingaree will be the place to do so.

Look at http://on.fb.me/GHDC-DJhere to see opening day details.

Visit www.stingsandiego.com for more information on the venue, or for table reservations, call (619) 544-1VIP.

Ghouls, goblins, ghosts and slutty… well, anything… take note: DJhere’s Halloween Ball is back!

That’s right, ladies and gents… it’s time to dust off your costumes of yesteryear or start hitting the thrift stores, ‘cause DJhere is once again bringing San Diego’s best Halloween bash to the Prado — the annual Halloween Ball, Sunday, Oct. 31.

This year marks the seventh installment of the massively-successful shindig, and if you’ve yet to attend one of DJhere’s Ball’s (That sounds right, doesn’t it?), I can assure you this isn’t the type of party you’d ever want to miss.

I shot photos at last year’s event, and I can say with all certainty (and I have photographic proof), it was without a doubt one of the best Halloween parties I’ve ever attended, let alone photographed. Slutty superheroes abounded, and skin was certainly the theme of the eve. Not to mention A-list headliner DJ Scotty Boy rocked the decks for a packed house of All Hallow’s Eve partiers.

Located in the heart of Balboa Park, the Prado is arguably the perfect venue for such an event, featuring three rooms of music, ample bars, and plenty of outdoor areas for whatever debauchery tickles your fancy. DJ talent includes Scooter & Lavelle, DJhere’s official DJ Craig Smoove, Erick Diaz, The Office Twins, Shewfly, and Collin Perry.

DJhere will also be hosting a $500 Costume Contest, doling out cash prizes for the Most Creative, Best Group, and Best Couple costumes. And believe me when I tell you there will be plenty of contenders in all categories.

It’s one of those events you have to see and experience for yourself firsthand, so cruise on over to www.djhere.com for tickets and additional info. Tickets start at $40, but for a limited time, you’ll be able to use promo code “djhere” for a $5 discount.

Doors are open at 9 p.m. and this is a 21-and-over event. Early arrival is encouraged, as the Prado will hit capacity.

The only ‘labor’ you need to worry about this coming holiday weekend is partying at WET REPUBLIC.

It’s no coincidence the summer season is sandwiched between two holiday weekends — Memorial Day kicking off the festivities in May, and Labor Day giving summer the proper celebratory sendoff it deserves in September. And really, what better way to usher in and bid adieu to everyone’s favorite season than three days of decadent debauchery? Take an extra vacation day or start perfecting your “sick voice,” ‘cause WET REPUBLIC is poised to throw the bash to end all bashes, and if you intend to end your summer with a bang (literally and figuratively), attendance is mandatory. Just don’t plan on making it to work on Tuesday.

If you failed to make an appearance at WET REPUBLIC’s Memorial Day weekend celebration, 1) you truly did “fail,” and 2) here’s who you missed behind the decks: Deadmau5, Roger Sanchez, Afrojack, Boris, Cedric Gervais, Chuckie, Fedde Le Grand, Sharam, and Victor Caldarone. Oh, and just to add insult to injury, because a picture really is worth a thousand words (or 1,000 CC’s of silicon):MDW-Saturday, MDW-Sunday, MDW-Monday. A video, on the other hand, is worth at least a few more than that: http://www.youtube.com/wetrepubliclv.

Considering what and whom the MGM Grand and WET REPUBLIC have in store for Labor Day weekend, however, the talent and events of Memorial Day will seem nothing more than a high school house party in comparison… Not the most accurate analogy, but you get the idea.

The festivities kick off Friday, Sept. 3 with Bad Boy Bill and Boris. The one and only Diddy hosts Saturday’s shenanigans, with Serge Devant and Funkagenda manning the decks. Will.I.Am and Sharam provide the aural stimulation on Sunday, and the not-to-be-missed Monday holiday hosts the star-studded lineup of Robbie Rivera, Fedde Le Grand, Laidback Luke, Chuckie, and Afrojack.

As of Friday, Aug. 27, tickets were still available for all four events, but they will be sold out in short order. The MGM Grand and WET REPUBLIC have truly outdone themselves this time around, and Labor Day may never be the same again.

As the adage goes, “Out with the old, in with the new.” And nowhere is the expression more relevant than the nightlife industry. Change is the lifeblood of the club scene, and keeping the music, venues and faces fresh and new is a tall order for any production company… especially given the perpetually fickle nature of the partying public.

For over a decade now, DJhere has managed to avoid stagnancy and succeed in a realm where others have fallen by the wayside. And they’ve done so by continually reinventing themselves.

This Saturday, July 24, DJhere is continuing the trend with the soft grand opening of their new DJhere Saturdays at the Andaz’s Ivy Nightclub, Rooftop & Winebar. You may recall, or forget due to copious alcohol consumption, their Friday nights at the same venue not so long ago when the hotel bore the name Ivy. This time around, however, expect even more from the company that’s brought you the best nights San Diego has to offer.

The soft grand opening will feature DJ’s Ri, Collin Perry, Este, Matty A and Theron; and the multi-level layout of the Andaz will offer multiple music formats throughout the night and all subsequent Saturdays. In other words, there’s simply no need to go elsewhere to find better or different music. It’s all right there.

The guest list will be free until 11 p.m., and DJhere will be offering free party buses from the Firehouse in PB to the Andaz. And as if you even needed another motivating factor, there will also be a hosted 42 Below Vodka bar from 9 to 10 p.m.

Much has changed since the last time you hit a DJhere party at what was once the Ivy; not the least of which is the venue name. Management, staff and even operations have all been revamped. But the guest list and general entry door will be a joint effort between DJhere and the Andaz, so anticipate the same friendly experience you’ve come to expect from any and all DJhere events.

Change is good… Come see for yourself this Saturday, July 24; and then again for the official grand opening of DJhere Saturdays on August 7.
