This Friday, we are featuring a special guest at the Hard Rock Hotel! I was not too sure on who this was before I started to dig a little…. Turns out,  this is someone who I think would be one of those girls you would find in the back of the room just chillin’ with the guys and laughing at the girls at the party who kiss each other. She is totally cool and I can’t wait to see her this Friday… Read on and get to know her a little bit more!

Gwendolyn Lewis AKA Guinevere is a Toronto, Canada native and one seriously badass chick. Her take on Bon Jovi’s, ‘Living on a Prayer’ is something for the band to be proud of…she has a perfect mix of sweet songstress and raspy rock legend that comes out to a sound that is sweeping the music charts.

From ice hockey skates to 6-inch heels, she is used to being the spotlight… But what many probably don’t know is that she was actually enrolled in Business School prior to leaving to chase her dreams of being in the music business. Some of the prior training helped though, she owns her own record label, aptly titled, ‘Nuke Town Records’ after a map in the video game Call of Duty.

As far as her musical roots go, it’s no surprise that she boasts her favorite artist is Jimi Hendrix (my kind of girl!)…

“I was definitely born in the wrong era,” explains the real-life Gwendolyn Lewis, who made her performing debut at a second grade talent show singing the Beach Boys’ “Surfer Girl,” getting turned on to Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Black Sabbath and her idol Stevie Nicks by her dad growing up. “Music has always been in my life. I keep gravitating to it, and there’s no avoiding it now.”

For the sound on her newest release, ‘Crazy Crazy’, she looked at some of the biggest names in the industry for influence – Justice, Skrillex, and Annie Lennox.

It’s no wonder she gave herself the name of Guinevere when she entered the industry. Guinevere was the strong and fair wife of King Arthur who stepped out on him for his best friend King Arthur. Basically, she is bad, wild, and not afraid to do what she wants! Come catch her this Friday at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego…it’s Grad Week. Do yourself a little favor and come party on us

It’s almost the weekend and we at DJhere couldn’t be more thankful! Sure, the work week is okay (it’s nice to feel like you got some shit done and didn’t lay around for hours watching re-runs of Family Guy or even better, Law&Order), but really, who are we kidding here…it’s the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday grind that makes life worthwhile! Thursday: PENDULUM (DJ SET) w/ BRASS FERGIE opening @ VOYEUR – 04/26/12
Pendulum is anAustralian formed band whose members include Knife Party’s Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen, and Paul Harding. Swire was part of a metal band with McGrillen known as Xygen. After hearing Konflict’s “Messiah” at a club, they were inspired to enter into the drum and bass genre. Pendulum came to birth when they hooked up with Paul, who was already holding it down in the drum and bass movement.

While Hold Your Colour holds true to the drum and bass genre, Pendulum have since experimented with mixing other genres into their work, as can be heard on In Silico and their newest release, Immersion. This transition can only add to the ever-growing popularity of the Pendulum name.

All I know is that whenever I get the chance to see these guys live, I TAKE IT! Swire has released multiple statements about Pendulum being on hiatus…the most recent being January of this year. Get your tickets quickly…it might just be the show of your lifetime!
