No one puts on a Saturday night bikini fashion show like Ivy Nightclub and DJhere Productions. With the electronic beats of oh-so-sexy DJ Errra, talents of dancers at Lipstik Inc, and unbelievably hot fashions borrowed from Gone Bananas, South Coast Wahines, Sunflower Swimwear, and Forward Footwear – the vibe of the nightclub was eclectic… But what may have been the most impressive and captivating components of the night were the hairstyles by Kristen Castellano and the make-up styles by Pauli.

Here is a little look into the night:

We decided to drop a little Q&A on our hair stylist Kristen … Here are the responses :

Kristen Castellano

1) What or who inspired you to be a make-up artist/hairstylist?

I wasn’t inspired by anything . It was something I always had in me to do.

2) How old were you when first realized that you wanted to do make-up/hair?

I always knew or had an idea I would be in this business but my first job ( doing hair ) I was15 , at that point I knew it was something that was for me.

3) What is your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is how different it is day to day . It is always an adventure.

4) If you could take your talents to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

If I could take my talents anywhere in the world it would be somewhere culturally completely different so I can be inspired for the future and hopefully touch someone or inspire someone else in someway.

5) Which celebrity or company would you be most excited about doing make-up/hair for?

The most exciting thing for me right now,  would be to work on a film that is period from the past. Creating looks that are period or even futuristic really excite me so anything that would have to do with that.

6) What is one life goal you have for yourself?

A life goal for myself as far as doing hair would be to have my own company to do hair from all aspects; film, special effects , fashion , beauty etc.

7) Aside from doing make-up/hair, what are some of your favorite things to do?

Some of my favorite things to do would be traveling , photography , being outside with my dogs.

Residents all over San Diego county soon started flocking to the purple and pink building looking for the hottest and latest beach style fashions.

As of late, Tom started bowing out of the main management position and now his two sons are helping not only keep this a family business but also a mainstay in the 92109 community. They invite you to come join the Gone Bananas family… We definitely have!

Have you felt it lately? That warm, whiteish, yellowish stuff on your skin? Not sure what it is? We call that SUNLIGHT!

Yes, nasty, I said sunlight (what the hell were you thinking?), and you’d better get used to it because summer is right around the corner! In honor of the arrival of spring and the coming of summer, DJhere is keeping you up to date on all of the hottest spring and summer trends so you can rock the season’s most fashion forward looks while partying downtown.

Spring and Summer Trends

One of my personal favorites of the season: colored skinny jeans. I know how addicted we all are to black leggings, but ladies, it’s time to add some color to your life! Most retailers are already in on this trend, so you can get virtually any color of skinny jeans anywhere, for any price. Some of my most successful purchases were made at: Forever21, Express, CottonOn and Macy’s. Some of the season’s hottest colors are salmon, electric blue, and shades of green and teal. When buying colored skinnies, also consider investing in a fitted pair of white skinny jeans, which are also a must have item for the spring and summer.

A tip when buying colored skinnies: make sure you buy jeans that are a bit snug. You don’t want a pair that will stretch out after you wear them once (or several times for that matter). Why? You don’t want to wash them unless you absolutely have to because colored jeans tend to bleed in the wash. If you must wash them, be sure to wash them separately from all other clothing! Don’t want to worry about having a potential color crisis? Stick with a cotton spandex blend, which have more of a cotton feel (Forever21) and won’t lose their color in the wash.

Laces and Sheers

Lace tops add elegance and a touch of sexy to any look, which is perfect for both day wear and for going out. Look for tops with lace accents on the sleeves, collar and bottom seams. Try pairing a crop top or tank top with a long sleeved lace cover up and colored shorts for a sweet and sexy day look. At night, look for tops and dresses that incorporate lace and sheer accents along the shoulders and sides. Sheer tops are perfect to pair with a fun, bright colored bandeau and skirt. Crops, Cut Offs, Cut Outs

Not sure about trying a different cut of jeans, shorts, or tops? Get over it, because this season is all about playing with new and vintage cuts and styles. High waist skirts and shorts, hot pants, cropped and cut tops are all fair game this season. Some of this season’s hottest looks feature blouses with cut-out shoulders, cropped bottoms, and cut out sides. Try adding these funky tops to tailored shorts or high wasted skirts for a tailored but edgy look. For an even edgier look, combine a pair of vintage or distressed denim shorts with a cropped or cut top. Have fun experimenting with this season’s styles, and don’t be afraid to incorporate some vintage too. For both new and old, shop: Forever21, Express, Buffalo Exchange, Mileage, Gloss Boutique.

Stick with these basics and you’re good to go for both days and nights this spring. Remember to incorporate color (skinny jeans, cropped shorts and skirts), texture (lace and sheers) and a little edge (vintage) to create the perfect spring look. These ladies will be showing and selling both new and vintage jewelry, scarves, belts and clothing. Creativity and style and definitely not lacking among these three fashionistas, who all pride themselves on keeping up with old trends, while also rediscovering old ones with vintage items. Eeva Rytkönen-Hetnar of Ihana Style proudly professes her passion for fashion with her fellow shoppers, saying ”This is my passion, to bring affordable style to people who don’t have the time, or the energy to go looking for it, or for someone who’s just browsing for that next special find.

Ladies, if you haven’t heard, New Year’s Eve is all about the glitter, glam, and sparkle. Although the big night is just a few short days away, there is still time to put together a fabulous look for the year’s biggest party. Not sure where to start? My suggestion is to use a simple black dress as your canvas, then glam up your look with accessories and a fabulous pair of shoes. Follow these simple tips to get that perfectly chic and sexy NYE look.

Dress: There are so many different styles of dresses that are popular today and that are flattering for any figure, so choose a dress that compliments your body type. And for Heaven’s sake, if you know you’re a size 4, don’t try to squeeze into a size 0.

Color: Black is a timeless and classic color for any black tie event. However shades of grey, navy or even nude or beige are also appropriate. Stay away from busy prints and bright colors and please, do not wear white. We are not in Miami. We are in San Diego.

Hair: The easiest way to dress up any look is with a loose bun and a sparkly headband or hair piece. If you have the time, a braided updo is especially classy and elegant. There are also additional benefits to wearing an updo. For example, if you find yourself slung over a toilet at 4AM. No best friend needed. Not enough hair for an up-do? Take an extra few minutes with a straightener or curling iron to make sure your hair is even and polished.

Accessories: Choose one piece of jewelry as your showpiece accessory and accent this piece with several smaller, simpler pieces. Keep in mind also that choosing the right accessory depends on the style and cut of your dress. Have a favorite pair of gorgeous gold, drop, earrings? Be sure to stick with a simple dress that is not overly textured and leave out the necklace. Wearing a thick or layered necklace? Wear small, studded earrings to prevent an accessory overload.

Shoes: If nothing else, show up naked with a fierce pair of shoes.

Makeup: The easiest way to add sparkle to any look is with makeup. Sparkle can be subtly incorporated with glitter eye shadow, eye-liner, mascara, and bronzer. Add gold or silver shadow at the tear duct or use glitter eye shadow right on the center of the lower part of the lid for dramatic eyes. If you’ve got great lips, accent them with a glittery red or add a dab of glitter gloss in the middle of bright red lips for an even bolder look. Coordinate shadow and lip colors with accessories and shoes. Also, be careful not to drown your face in too much glitter or you might end up looking like you got glitter gunned by Ke$ha.

Finishing Touches: Get a mani pedi. Nobody wants to see chipped nails or even worse, chipped toes.
