With a year round summer, the Holiday’s feel a little bit different in San Diego. Although there won’t be any snow or sledding, San Diegans can still enjoy some wintertime fun! Have a happy holiday season this winter and enjoy some of the best events and scenery San Diego has to offer:
Did you know that Coronado was the location of America’s first light up Christmas tree in 1904? Needless to say, Coronado still has the most magnificent tree located at the Hotel del Coronado. Come see for yourself more than 100,000 bright lights and sparkling decorations.
Skating by the Sea
Hotel del Coronado is also the home of a breathtaking ice-skating rink overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Only open from November 23rd through January 2nd, this famous skating rink costs only $25 for a three hour one-of-a-kind skating session.
Winter Wonderland at Petco Park
Forget about the perfect weather and palm trees for a second, and imagine immersing yourself in a winter wonderland right here in San Diego. On December 5th, Petco Park will become a real winter experience with falling snow, bright holiday lights, and live reindeer.
Winter Migration Whale Watching
Instead of sticking yourself on a 5 hour boat trip, watch the annual whale migrate from the shores and cliffs of Point Loma. California Gray Whales will be heading towards the warmer water in Baja, California, giving visitors a spectacular show.
Looking to play in some San Diego snow? Drive up the mountains to Sunrise Highway to go sledding or build a snowman. Be warned, you can get fined without the proper permit, so make sure you stop by the Lodge on your way up. Don’t forget warm clothes and to prepare your vehicle for icy conditions.
