In 17th century France, the greatest achievement for any young artist would of been to have had his works displayed in the royal Salons (the most famous was held at the Louvre in Paris). A Salon was basically a giant art gallery that displayed only works that were chosen by a selection jury prior to exhibition. Looks a little like this once you were in:
Hectic, right…but to us, it’s the thought of creating a space to display other’s talent that inspired the idea to dedicate a night to the arts. Also, it’s San Diego’s Art Month and we COULD NOT pass up the opportunity to showcase our hometown ladies’ creations. Fortunately for you, our Salon at the IVY nightclub at Andaz will be a little easier to navigate, and A LOT more fun!
Introducing our ARTISTS: We have some very talented ladies working with us this year, and we would like to give you a chance to get to know them and their individual artistic talent a little better before the show!

Ariel Wilson:
BIO – Coming from Temecula, CA, and a UCSD Art graduate, Ariel brings natural elements to her work to make it interesting. She has currently began using art sharing website Society 6 to display her talent. In her own words, “The work I make results from a curiosity in identity as related to storytelling, personal or communal histories, and ideas of impermanence. My intention is to make works that stimulate a similar curiosity in the viewer. I make images and objects with multiple layers of detail and varying degrees of clarity, which attempt to entice the viewer to make a closer inspection. The veiled and unobtrusive elements of my work function as a “hidden layer” that becomes like a secret that the viewer is privy to, in hopes that it will elicit a sense of intimacy between the viewer and the work.”

Danae Wilson:
BIO – This CSULB Fine Art graduate is not only Ariel’s older sister, but also is a creative genius herself. Also from Temecula, CA, she paints large murals which display layers and layers of imagination on one canvas. From the artist, “My work has evolved from explicit portrayals of claustrophobic and overwhelming landscapes, to more open-ended and ambiguous scenes, both in terms of source material and representation. I play between interior and exterior in a way that I contrast the individual and the collective. Colors are obsessively layered, combined, and revised in a way that references themes of the work.”
